What Is Wet Cleaning?
Wet cleaning is a modern cleaning system designed to replace conventional dry cleaning services. While dry cleaning uses hazardous solvents such as perchloroethylene (or perc for short), wet cleaning uses sophisticated washing machines and dryers, together with biodegradable detergents, to clean even fabrics that are marked as âdry clean onlyâ.
Wet cleaning has a number of advantages over dry cleaning. First and foremost, the process is much kinder to the environment, not only because it eliminates the use of hazardous chemicals, but also because energy consumption is lower and there is no air pollution. You wonât find that distinctive âdry cleaning smellâ on items that have been wet cleaned. In fact the only smell you will be aware of is the fresh smell of clean clothes.
The solvent-free process also leaves colours brighter, with customers often commenting that their clothes look âbetter than newâ.
What Happens To My Dry Cleaning?
When your dry cleaning arrives at Atlantic Cleaners weâll decide the best way for it to be cleaned. As wet cleaning is so efficient and completely safe for almost all types of fabric, in practice this means that your items will be wet cleaned. Only very rarely do we have to use more conventional dry cleaning methods. For almost all our customers, eco-friendly wet cleaning is the best option.
All the hangers we put your clothes on can be used again, and we encourage you to return them to us by offering a 20p credit for every hanger you send back with your next order. Weâve also removed single use plastic bags from our services, preferring instead to use recyclable bags. We deliver your items back to you in these bags, which you then hand back to your driver to be used again. If you want, you can buy your own bags to use for future orders.
