Our Reviews: What Our Customers Say
Our Green Credentials
Atlantic Cleaners is the environmentally friendly choice for dry cleaning and laundry services. We demonstrate our commitment to being green in a number of ways.
Atlantic Cleaning uses WetCare, the original wet-cleaning system from Miele. This very gentle cleaning process is suitable for most types of fabrics, including the most delicate, meaning that it can be used in place of traditional dry cleaning. Even dry cleaning processes that claim to be more eco-friendly use chemicals that can be harmful to the environment, while wet cleaning has minimal impact. WetCare wet cleaning uses biodegradable detergents to clean fabrics.
Miele WetCare machines use 30% less water than conventional machines and can wash at 20°C, which reduces energy consumption by 50%. Larger machines also mean fewer washes, so whatever type of garment we are cleaning the environmental benefits are clear.
An added benefit of wet cleaning is that the process actually takes better care of your items. Leaving colours brighter, protecting delicate fabrics and giving your garments a great fresh smell.
Eradicating Single-Use Plastics & Throwaway Hangers
It’s not just our cleaning process that cares for the planet. Rather than give away hundreds of cheap hangers every year that often just end up in the bin, we provide sturdy, reusable hangers. You can either keep these or return them with your next order. You’ll receive 20p credit for every hanger you return to us.
You also won’t find any of those nasty plastic bags that dry cleaning normally comes back in. Atlantic Cleaners returns your items in recyclable bags that can be used again and again. When we return your items you remove them and hand the bag to your driver. If you’d rather keep a bag – or two – for future orders, you can purchase your own bags.
We ensure that all our drivers observe current social distancing rules when collecting and delivering your items, and returned hangers are kept in ‘quarantine’ before being used again.

At Atlantic Cleaners we pride ourselves on being at the forefront of developments in the dry cleaning and laundry business. We’re also proud of being a business with a long history of trading in the area. With Atlantic Cleaners you get reliability paired with innovation.
Our company traces its history back to 1933 when it was established. In 1951 the original founders sold the business to Maurice Sadgrove, at which point all dry cleaning was being outsourced to Brunswick Laundry of Portsmouth.
In 1953 the first major expansion took place with the business opening a shop in Grayshott, Surrey.
Atlantic Cleaners and Tailors began trading in Southampton in 1956 and remains operating dry cleaners and launderettes in Southampton.
In 1964 the business was purchased by Brian Cooke, who later sold it to his son, Stephen Cooke. Throughout this time the business continued to expand. In 2015 the Cooke family retired from the business.
In 2018 the main Atlantic Cleaners and Tailors business was merged with Liphook Valet Service and now trades from multiple locations throughout Southampton and across Hampshire, Surrey and West Sussex.
We first invested heavily in Miele WetCare technology in 2019. This investment allowed us to offer an environmentally friendly alternative to the traditional solvent and chemical dry cleaning options. Today, approximately 90% of all our cleaning is done with purely water based cleaning agents.
In 2020, we continue to invest in our business to offer our customers a convenient home collection and delivery service to complement our retail branch network.
